LENT 2020 – Called to a life that pleases God
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are all called to a life that pleases God. Let us learn to discover His will as much in our choices, our characters as in our service, our passions, our work and our dreams. Each week, through these mediations, let us also take the decision to put the Word into practice by coming with concrete action(s) for our lives. This time of Lent, let us walk together to enter into God’s plan of love.
Called to surrender to God’s purpose
Today, let us read John 12:20-28
“What shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? No, it was this very reason I came to this hour.” That’s how Jesus places his purpose, within the purpose of his Father. In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus prays. “…remove this cup from me; yet not what I will but what you will” (Mark 14:36).
When he was twelve he told his parents he needed to be about his father’s business. At the start of his mission, coming out of the waters of baptism, a voice said: “You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased.”
And now he sees the end. The hour has come. He sees the glory of his Father.
In the meantime there will be the cruelty of human beings. He will be cut down, thrown to the ground. The grain of wheat must die to bear much fruit.
And because he places his purpose within his Father’s purpose, he can already see a large harvest.
You are part of his harvest. He sees you worthy of his compassion, worthy for him to connect you in a loving relationship with Papa.
Personal action
I let go the past, and move past any shame or guilt. Let go. I have been saved to be where he is (v26).
Prayer
Father, Papa, help me find my purpose in life, find real meaning to my being, discover how to act as one for whom you gave your life for. May your will be done. Amen
