In early 1990, a few Malagasy workers began to immigrate again in Mauritius, and this has continued to this day. Some workers, mainly led by the Malagasy Pastor Lalanirina Rakotoarisoa, of the FJKM and Mr. Maurice Davantin (Pastor in exercise at PCM currently), created a prayer cell in 1995. Shortly after, a worship in Malagasy was set up every third Sunday of the month in the Presbyterian Church at Rose Hill.
New Momentum
There was a time when the community no longer had a pastor. So, to follow up on this endeavor and with a view to better integrate this community within the Presbyterian Church of Mauritius, Pastor Tovo Fetr’Antenaina Ramanantsoa was brought in from Madagascar. He started a new mission supported by the Cevaa in July 2015 and was officially installed as a pastor in office within the PCM in October of the same year.
Integration into the PCM
After discussion and argument, an unprecedented event took place in Mauritius. The Presbyterian Church of Mauritius, through its national synod of November 14, 2015 in Port-Louis, officially integrated the Malagasy community into its structures. In other words, it is part of the Presbyterian parishes and now bears the name “Malagasy chaplaincy”.
Worship Service
Worship services are practiced in Malagasy every Sunday: at 10:30 am on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month in the Saint André in Rose Hill and the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays in Saint Jean, Port-Louis. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated every 1st Sunday and during Christian holidays. Pastor Tovo Ramanantsoa also participates in the direction of the Francophone worship of Saint André.
Managers
After animation, the Chaplaincy currently has eight choirs. They respectively have their council and their program of activities. The office members (Parish Council) as well as the elders have been renewed.
